Oral cancer it one of the most deadly cancers. Of those newly diagnosed, 50% will die in less than five years. This has largely been due to the fact that it is diagnosed far too late. Oral cancer can grow and spread without producing pain or symptoms.
If detected early, oral cancer is one of the most treatable cancers with a five-year survival rate of 85%. The key to treating oral cancer successfully is to detect and take action as early as possible.
Oral cancer screenings are so important that it is integrated into every exam that we perform at Pacific Sky Dental. Our cancer screenings follow the gold standards set by the American Cancer Society and the American Dental Association to visualize and palpate all high-risk areas taking into consideration the color, texture, and appearance of the soft tissue.
If you have any of the following common symptoms, be sure to schedule a visit with our office to ensure that early signs and symptoms of oral cancer and pre-cancerous conditions are caught early:
Areas of concern may be further investigated using light fluoroscopy, a brush test, or biopsied depending on the clinical situation. All biopsies are sent to the UCSF Dermatopathology and Oral Pathology Service and reported back within one week.
Included in our armamentarium s the Identafi oral cancer screening system that helps to show dysplastic tissues using three different wavelengths of light.
