Dental Implants

Do you struggle with uncomfortable full or partial dentures? Are you missing teeth and embarrassed to smile? Dental implants are a permanent and durable restorative solution that can help you reclaim your confident, healthy smile.

Dental implants look and function like natural teeth, making them the preferred method of tooth replacement for dentists and patients alike. Healthy implants can also help prevent further bone loss and preserve the shape of your lips, jaw, and face. One of the greatest advantages of dental implants is that they enable Dr. Jone to replace a missing tooth without having to use the surrounding teeth for support.

While many dentists can restore dental implants (top them with a crown, bridge, or denture), not all have the ability to perform the implant procedure from start to finish. Dr. Jone has completed extensive training in both the surgical placement and the cosmetic restoration of dental implants. He can provide all of your implant care right here in our Daly City dental office.

Single-Tooth Dental Implants

Daly City implant specialist Dr. Jone can replace a single missing tooth using a dental implant. A dental implant begins with placement of a small titanium screw into the jawbone in place of the missing tooth. Titanium is a biocompatible material, so it fuses with the jawbone, creating a solid anchor. Dr. Jone will then place a crown on top of the implant to give you a new tooth that looks, feels and functions like your other natural teeth.

Single-tooth dental implants are perfect for replacing one or more teeth that have been lost due to trauma or disease. When maintained, dental implants can last for decades and offer a viable option to replace your natural teeth. Dr. Jone will carefully match your new dental implant to your existing teeth, giving you a renewed, functional and complete smile.

Implant-Supported Fixed Bridges

If you're missing a couple of teeth in a row, Dr. Jone can place dental implants on either side of the gap and use those implants to anchor a fixed bridge. A dental bridge connects to crowns on either side of a gap caused by missing teeth. The bridge contains a false tooth or multiple false teeth that then sit in place of your missing tooth or teeth, effectively "bridging" the gap in your smile.

Implant-supported fixed bridges are used when there are not viable teeth to use to support a traditional dental bridge. Implants are added that act as the support teeth for the bridgework, which is placed behind the teeth. Fixed bridges and partial dentures are similar, but fixed bridges are not removable and are permanently affixed in place. Fixed bridges with implant supports can be an affordable option for replacing several missing teeth in a row in comparison to replacing all with dental implants.

Non-Removable Implant-Supported Dentures

Missing most or all your teeth in a single arch? Implant-supported dentures can replace your missing teeth and give you back full function and a beautiful smile. Implant-supported dentures "click" into place on dental implants Dr. Jone places, making them more secure and comfortable than regular dentures.

Non-removable implant-supported dentures offer more stability, comfort and convenience compared to conventional dentures. Since they are secured in place by attaching to dental implants, they do not require adhesives and will not slip when you are eating, talking or laughing. Implants give these hybrid dentures the stability needed for a higher level of function and comfort, making this a popular option for those who need their teeth replaced on one or both arches. These are often referred to as All-on-4, referring to a full mouth reconstruction supported by four dental implants.

Bone Grafting for Dental Implants

If Dr. Jone determines that your jawbone is too deteriorated because you've been missing a tooth or teeth for a while, he can perform a bone graft to build up the jawbone and make room for secure dental implants to be placed.

Bone grafts for dental implants use donor bone from another source to add density and strength to the jawbone. Often the bone is removed from another source on your body, which is the best option for compatibility. The grafting process can replace bone that has been lost due to periodontal disease, tooth loss or other causes. Many people who were once not good candidates for dental implants due to low bone density in the jaw can now obtain implants with the addition of a bone graft. Dr. Jone can perform a thorough examination to determine if bone grafting is necessary for your dental implant procedure.

Removable Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants can offer secure support for dentures, even those that are removable. Adding dental implants with a bar attachment can keep dentures in place and stop them from slipping or moving. Removable implant-supported dentures offer patients more confidence and comfort than conventional dentures that require adhesive to hold them in place and may slip or move during normal activities.

Removable implant-supported dentures usually require 2-4 dental implants to be surgically placed. Dr. Jone can perform the implant procedure, which takes about 3-6 months to heal. In the meantime, removable dentures can be worn until the implants are stable and can be attached to the dentures. This option keeps dentures in place and can prevent more bone loss in the jaw, helping preserve the facial structure for improved appearance and health of the patient.
