Sedation Dentistry: Fear and the Dentist

posted in: Sedation Dentistry | 0

If the dentist makes you feel nervous, you aren’t alone. Many people get anxiety about going to the dentist, whether it’s because of the loud noises or you don’t like people digging around in your mouth. Or, perhaps you had a bad experience in the past. These are all very common feelings, and ones we hear at Pacific Sky Dental almost every day.

Fear and the Dentist

We’re here to let you know, that you don’t need to be afraid. We understand that these feelings are genuine, but skipping your routine exams can lead to expensive restorative work and health issues later on. We encourage you to visit our office, even without an appointment, just to get to know our staff and ask us any questions. If you would like to schedule an appointment with us, we’re happy to go over our sedation options to provide you with an even more relaxing and comfortable experience.

Sedation Dentistry

We have two options for conscious sedation here in Daly City. If you still aren’t sure what they are, just let us know! We’re happy to go over more details for you.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous Oxide is a sweet smelling gas which is administered through a mask over the nose. It’s one of the safest sedation options in dentistry, and can even help children feel more at ease during treatments.

This type of sedation is also preferable if you have a gag reflex to dental work. Some individuals are sensitive to having people work in their mouth, so nitrous oxide might be the answer to help keep you calm and comfortable.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is administered through a single pill that you take prior to starting treatment. This pill will help you feel relaxed during your visit, and will even wear off enough that you’ll be able to drive yourself home soon after your treatment is complete.

See? You’re feeling less nervous already! Please visit or call our dental office soon so we can help you overcome your fear of the dentist.
